Press Release: 1st May 2021

Lincs Firewood Company Ltd ensures fuel is Ready To Burn

As a local provider of fuels for fires and multifuel stoves, Lincs Firewood Company Ltd is making it easy for customers to find manufactured solid fuels that have been certified as Ready to Burn and that meet new legal requirements that come into force from 1 May 2021 in England.

A ‘manufactured solid fuel’ means a fuel manufactured from coal, wood, plant-derived materials, waxes or petroleum products with other ingredients, used for burning at home. Under the Air Quality (Domestic Solid Fuels Standards) (England) Regulations 2020 that will apply in England from 1 May 2021, all manufactured solid fuels sold for use in homes will need to be certified as Ready to Burn.

The Defra Ready to Burn certification scheme for manufactured solid fuels is run by HETAS. HETAS is a non-profit organisation supporting cleaner and safer choices for the use of biomass and other solid fuels, appliances and associated technologies. To be certified as Ready to Burn, fuels must meet specified limits for smoke emissions and sulphur content.

Lincs Firewood Company Ltd customers can be confident that the fuel being sold meets emission requirements by looking for the Ready to Burn logo along with the manufacturer name and unique Ready to Burn certification number on packaging.

Evan Jenkins, Managing Director, at Lincs Firewood Company Ltd says: “The new legislation is all about helping to reduce particulate emissions and improve air quality. Ready to Burn certified fuels burn more efficiently than traditional housecoal and are also better for your appliance and chimney, helping to reduce maintenance and fuel costs.

The Ready to Burn certification scheme makes it easier than ever for people to identify fuels that meet legal requirements, so they can have complete confidence in what they’re buying.”
